SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI — Dora Gallo knocked in two and almost had a third as FC Wichita routed divisional foe SFG Lady Demize 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
FC Wichita is 1-1 on the young season. They sit second in the Heartland Conference. Their three points is equal to St. Louis but FC Wichita owns the goal differential tiebreaker.
FC Wichita looked like their old, dominating self once again. After a tough loss last week, FC Wichita rebounded well and it showed early as Oklahoma State Cowgirl, Peyton Vincze placed a gorgeous ball into the box, Kansas State Wildcat, Dora Gallo, placed it firmly into the back of the net for the early lead in the just the 13th minute.
Katie McClure, the all-time leading goal scorer in FC Wichita history found the net for the first time on the season, sliding by the keeper in the 29th minute, putting FC Wichita up 2-0.
Vincze decided to get in on the scoring action. She took advantage of poor possession by Demize and fire a rocket into the back of the net. FC Wichita would take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
Gallo would get a second goal right out of halftime, dazzling the Demize keeper on a play where the keeper found herself outside the box. Gallo made her pay, completing the brace.
Gallo almost added a third one late in the match but it was called back for a questionable offsides.
Before they can return home, FC Wichita will take their show on the road once again. They’ll play the 2017 WPSL Champions, the St. Louis Lions in St. Peters, Missouri on Saturday, June 1 at 7 p.m. Then, they’ll play Fire & Ice Academy at 2 p.m. in Belleville, Illinois.
FC Wichita returns home on June 8 looking for against the Demize in a double header. The FC Wichita women’s club kicks off at 4 p.m., with the men starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stryker Stadium.
